Alaka’i Apprenticeship Program
Our community teaching approach embodies true leadership. We believe in fostering our apprentices to embrace their individuality, while instilling the values of collaboration, sustainability, cultural preservation and hard work. Experienced craftspeople work side by side with apprentices, guiding them through the principles and practices of our trades.
As stewards of the environment, we responsibly utilize reclaimed lumber from the island, partnering with local arborists and landowners, championing our motto – ‘Waste is Stupid!’ – to promote sustainable practices and minimize our ecological footprint.
Our ties with local Hawaiian leaders (Alaka’i) and protectors (Ho’ Omalu) grant us access to private lands, fostering connections with traditional stories and values.
Together, we create a legacy of craftsmanship that enriches lives and strengthens the bonds of our community, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
